The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is an outdoor arboretum and zoo combined. The live animals are in natural settings and many of the plants are labeled for identification. There are over three miles of wheelchair accessible, paved hiking trail and a half mile desert loop.
There are live animal demonstrations daily. A outdoor Raptor Free Flight with birds flying nearby occurs twice each day. Indoors, Live and Loose is a demonstration of venomous reptiles and Running Wild shows several of the desert inhabitants running across stage. Then also, there are various Keeper Encounters scheduled throughout the day.
Restaurants and snack shops are available. A gift shop offers locally produced art and jewelry and a book store of educational books on variety of regionally interesting subjects.
